User Interface and UI functionality

Nokia Asha 300 is a blower device with prominent touch and type and swipe feature. It has a resistive touch-screen set above a typical alphanumeric keypad. The users can easily use this device with either of the two. It is easy to tap and swipe on this phone but its UI is not as smooth as that of a luxurious smartphone and users may find it easy to type (for those who prefer using a proper keypad). The resistive screen is its another drawback as many cheaper devices with better touch-screens are available. This Nokia device operates on 1 GHz processor and that ensures that its performance and speed will be envy of many on-lookers. Nokia Asha 300 looks reasonably classy with its rounded edges. Its wide 2.4 inches TFT resistive color touch display with 240 X 320 pixels resolution also sets it apart from the usual phones. The screen shows 256 K colors with ease.  It seems durable with a nice body form and design. It has well spaced keys, physically measures 112.8 mm, 49.5 mm and 12.7 mm in length, width and thickness respectively and weighs as much as 85 grams. It is not very slim but definitely pocket able. The memory of the phone is not enough to save many pictures and videos and they need to be almost instantly put up on Facebook, removed or saved elsewhere.

Internet support

An advanced WAP 2.0/HTML/xHTML browser exists in Nokia Asha 300 and facilitates web browsing hassle free. The downloading, Internet speed and access is quite good, thanks to the power packed phone with a 1 GHz processor. Also, it operates on most familiar Symbian S40 operating system that many a people are used to. It does not facilitate navigation via GPS as it lacks the internal GPS receiver. However, with 3 G on board, it allows users to speedily download. On HSDPA, users can download at 10.2 mbps and on HSUPA at 2 mbps.

Internal and External Memory

Nokia Asha 300 claims to have an in built memory of 140 MB and also boasts 256 MB ROM and 128 MB RAM support. There is network support on GSM bands over quad band operating frequencies of 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and on 3G HSDPA over 850/900/1900/2100 MHz frequencies.

Compare

There are many touch and type smartphones in the market to give tough competition to Nokia’s Asha 300. For instance, Nokia Asha 300 may easily lose out to a powerful Motorola device, the Motorola Charm. Other devices that may give competition to Nokia Asha 300 are Sony Xperia Mini Pro, HTC ChaCha, Samsung Galaxy 551 and Samsung Galaxy Pro. Though Motorola Charm is a bit expensive device, its touch and type capabilities are far better and so is its Motoblur UI which is far ahead of Nokia’s in house UI technology. It has a rich and classy feel attached to it. It boasts of many goodies like huge storage, 2.8 inches wide TFT touch screen, full QWERTY keypad, Android OS, backtrack navigation pad, CrystalTalk Plus technology for enhanced audio etc etc. However, this expensive device does not have a 5 mega pixels camera and other multimedia stuff that Nokia Asha 300 boasts of. The low price of this Nokia device also goes in its favor as it is also a vital consideration for many buyers.
